Plutonium Applications

Plutonium-239 along with Uranium is used as a nuclear fuel in thermal and, especially, in fast neutron reactors as well as in nuclear weapons. Metal Plutonium-239 critical mass is 5.6 - 10 kg. Plutonium-239 in reactors is also the feedstock for transplutonium elements production. Plutonium-238 is utilized in compact nuclear voltage sources used in space technique as well as in heart stimulators.
